Windows 2008 Data Center - change product key from KMS to MAK without service interruption
Hi. I have a 2008 Data Center server. It does 2 things:
- File sharing through network shares
- Hyper-V (only test VM's as of now)
Through my volume licensing, I had two product key options for licensing this server instance. KMS and MAK. I entered the KMS product key. Everything works fine, aside from a daily application event error message about the failure of the KMS to register with our domain. I now realize after doing the research I should have done earlier - I do not require KMS in our environment.
I want to change the product key to my MAK one. I'm assuming this can be done without any interruption to any services on this server? I have done nothing in our environment that requires KMS. I was going to change in the evening but thought I'd post this question to be safe.
Thank You!

To install a MAK by using the System application, click the Change your product key link, and then type the MAK in the Change your product key for activation dialog box.To install a MAK by using Slmgr.vbs, run the following command at a command prompt:Copy Code slmgr.vbs /ipk Directly from here:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd772269.aspx
I should add this:If users install a MAK by using the UI, the MAK client attempts to activate itself over the Internet one time. If the users install a MAK key by using the Slmgr.vbs script, the MAK client does not try to activate automatically.

Hi, yes I know where to change. But does it interrupt any services when changing the product key on a live server?
