Inconsistent taskbar behavior

I have two computers with Windows 7 -- a Dell E520 desktop with 32-bit Windows 7 and a Dell Studio 1555 laptop with 64-bit Windows 7.  On the desktop, when I hover the mouse over a taskbar icon, I get images of the documents.  This was the way the laptop behaved at first, but after a month or so, it switched to displaying the document title in a frame.  I am not sure which I prefer, but I would like to have a choice.  What setting controls whether I get an image or a title when hovering over a taskbar item?

Here are images of the two states:

This is the titles-only one:

Both computers have "Always combine, hide labels" selected for Taskbar buttons in the Taskbar properties sheet.
