I have a storevault s500 with the shared Lun running out of space. There are several hundred gigs of space available when I check the storevault manager. How do I increase the size of the shared LUN?

What version of Ontap?  Are you using filer View or Netapp System Manager?

Storevault manager SVE ver. 3.0 and ontap SVE ver 7.2
Storevault manager shows 530gb of free space.

Show me a screenshot of the volume view and LUN view, it should be the same as filer view on a netapp but I want to make sure.

I do not know if this is what you are looking for, but I attached two views. The mapped LUN has only 28.6gb remaining and there is plenty of space on the storevault disks.

Double clicking on the above images does open up a very clear image. Please see if you can help me with this problem as I am running out of space on the mapped drives. Thanks.

I saw Exhange on there.  Are you running snapmananger for Exchange and/or Snapdrive?

Commented:
If you're using snapmanager for exchange you can use snapdrive to resize luns.  If not let me know and I'll try to assist, most of my experience is on the netapp fas units, the interface here is a bit different, although you should be able to resize via command line if it uses ontap commands

I do not know how to resize the luns. Yes there is a snapmanager for exchange.

I am going home and will check remotely to see if you replied. I can work from home if you are up to it. Will take me 45 minutes to get home. Thanks for staying with me.

If there is snapmanager for Exchange then you're most likely using snapdrive.  Login to snapdrive and you should see functionality in there to edit/resize LUNs.

All I see is snapmanager, how do I logon to snapdrive?

If you have snapsdrive installed it should be under program files->netapp->snapdrive

All I have is SnapManager for Exchange Management Console and SnapManager for Exchange PowerShell under NetApp in program files.

Is there anywere in the gui to edit LUN. Normally that's where you can give a new size, snap reserve, etc..

Author

Commented:
No there is nothing that allows me to do any LUN ediiting or resizing. I think it can be done (if you know how) by telneting into the unit and doing it by command mode. I just don't know how to do that.

On the netapp you can connect via CLI

lun resize [ -f ] <lun_path> [ + | - ] <size>
  - change the size of a LUN to the input value <size>.
See "lun create" for the syntax of <size>. + or - option
may be used to increment or decrement the current size.
If a LUN is to be reduced in size, the -f option may be used
    to override any warnings.

Note that administrative actions may be necessary for client
operating systems/applications to see the size change.

To prevent block-protocol accesses during the LUN resize, the
"lun offline" command may be used.

I logged into the unit and DataonTap came up and the only luns I could see were the exchange ones. How do I get to the mapped LUNS under storevault manager? Those are the ones running out of room.

lun show [ -v | -m | -c ] [ all | mapped | offline | online | unmapped | staging | -g initiator_group | -n node | lun_path ]

Displays the status (lun_path, size, online/offline state, shared state) of the given lun or class of luns. With the -v flag supplied, additional information (comment string, serial number, LUN mapping) is also displayed. With the -m flag supplied, information about lun_path to initiator_group mappings is displayed in a table format. With the -c flag supplied, information about lun cloning status is displayed.

A specific lun can be indicated by supplying its lun_path. When an initiator_group is specified, status is reported for all luns that are mapped to the initiator group. When a node is specified, status is reported for all luns that are mapped to initiator groups which contain that node. When staging is specified, information about the temporary luns preserved in the staging area is reported.

Mapped luns are ones with at least one map definition. A lun is online if it has not been explicitly made offline using the lun offline command.

lun snap usage [ -s ] vol_name snap_name

Displays information about all LUNs in active file system and snapshots that are backed by the given snapshot

This command displays all the LUNs in all the existing snapshots which are currently backed by data in the given snapshot snap_name. If you wish to delete the given snapshot snap_name then you must first destroy all those LUNs in the active file system, which are listed in the output. Thereafter, if vol options snapshot_clone_dependency is not set, you need to delete all the snapshots listed in the output starting from the one listed at the top. Once this is done you can then delete the snapshot snap_name. The -s option provides a summary view of the information.

I've seen storevualts that fully support ontap, I guess this one does not.  If you have support give them a call or look in the manual.
