Photoshop - how to make my image wider, without stretching...
Hi All,
I have a question about how to artificially widen some images to fit a website banner. I have a few sample images that I'm working with that I have attached. the first image (dog at beach) is 380px x 254px and the second (cat) is 380px x 253px. I need both of these images to fit inside a banner that is 775px X 220px.
What I was thinking is to have the dog at beach image be right justified and then extend the left side of that image all the way to the left, to the left border of the banner. The goal would be to make it look like it was just a wider image, with a lot of beach on the left. And I'm looking to do the same with the cat image, except extend to the right.
I assume that there are some techniques to do this without too much trouble, but that's why I'm here asking the experts.
Thanks,
John

That's amazing! Naturally, I have CS4.

The "old" method:
Enlarge the Canvas to the size you need.
Duplicate the main layer and isolate the dog and the woman, that is, remove the background of the upper layer.
Then hide the upper layer and make the background fill into the whole lower layer. Stretch, stamp, drag-copy the backgound – all sorts of ways. Cover the dog and the woman.
Make the upper layer visible again and move the items to where you want it.

The top image is fairly easy because the edges can be made to line up fairly well. The kitten is more difficult. I left a little of the watermark so you could see that all I did was layer copies of the image until I had it streched to look like one wider image. I think I used 5 copies and stretched the one on the left a little to line up and fill.

the content aware scaling does work fairly well with a little bit of playing around
