I run Exchange 2008 on my SBS 2008 server. Â I use POP3 to log in remotely to check my email with Outlook 2010.
All has been running well and then all of a sudden without touching anything on the server or the netbook Outlook fails to connect to the SBS2008 Exchange server and returns the following message after asking my for my user and password:-
! Task 'Home POP3 Server - Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC92): Your e-mail server rejected your login. Â Verify your user name and password for this account in Accounting Settings. Â The server responded : -ERR Server Unavailable. 21'
"Home POP3 Server' is the name of my account.
So I have tried TELNET ie
TELNET
OPEN server 110
and then I submit by user code and password with USER and PASS COMMANDS and it responds with the following messages:-
-ERR Server Unavailable. 21
-ERR Connection is closed. 22
I have tried restarting the Server - still there.
I have looked at the services running - everything seems to be fine.
Any ideas????

It is quite possible that it is a corrupt email in your account that is stopping you from connecting. If you can, go into your mailbox using Outlook Web Access.
Check for any emails that have appeared since you last checked yuor email. You may want to delete one or more and see if that cures the problem.
Well I have been loking into everything.
1. Therto se were two automatice updates to the server since POP3 was working perfectly. Â One was the Exchange Server 2007 Enterprise Anti-spam filter updates and the other the block list updates. Â I don't see how these could have caused POP3 to stop working.
2. So I looked at the event log and found strange things happening to Exchange Server since when it was working fine for POP3!! Â I have evet Id 1159 and 8197 excerr0.pdf excerror.pdf
see above comments from me somehow sent before I had filished the whole message.
So I went and looked at the exchange manager console on the server and found that the Mailbox First Storage Group was dismounted so I mounted it and the mounting worked.
I then restarted the server and tried POP3 from my netbook again.
But alas still the same errors. Â The server asks for my credentials and fails the credential check again ie login to the mail server fails for receiving emails.
