I have Microsoft SQL server installed in Windows 7 64-bit that presumably came with the installation of Visual studio 2008 professional and Visual studio 2010 ultimate. I am unable to locate SQL Server Mangement Studio that should reside in the "Microsoft SQL Server 2008" folder in the start menu. The only things I found there are

Import and Export Data (32-bit)

Configuration Tools. Which contains
SQL Server Configuration Manager
SQL Server Error and Usage Reporting
SQL Server Installation Center (64-bit)
SQL Server Installation Center

Seems like Workstation components are not installed in your machine..
Kindly type ssms.exe in command prompt which should open up SQL Server Management Studio if installed in your machine..

'ssms.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

you probably installed the Express edition of SQL server that is bundled with Visual Studio (which does not install SSMS)

If that is the case I believe this one is what I need to download install. I just try to install it by double clicking the setup file but I am then taken to this screen (see attached image) and I am not sure how to proceed from this point.

go to installation, then click on install new sql server. and throughout the install process there will be a section to choose the features you would like to install. one of the options is management studio or client tools

Then you don't have SSMS installed in your machine..

To install SSMS, just follow the steps given below

http://www.sqlserverclub.com/essentialguides/how-to-install-sql-server-2008-step-by-step-guide.aspx

and in "STEP 10 : Feature Selection", just choose Management Tools to get SSMS installed.
