Easiest way to determine what sqlservr.exe is doing

Hi, we have a number of servers that from time sqlservr.exe  will start using a lot of cpu. It would be useful to know what it's doing during that time.

Is there a nice way with sqlexpress to see what's chewing resources?

Not sure if it's included in MS SQL Server Express, but have you tried opening the Activity Monitor? It should provide you with some info on who's doing what and what kind of queries are being run at that time.

Sorry for the delay, I don't have a current case to test this on.
didnt get your point..
To determine if what you have suggested for tracking the usage is correct for my circumstance I need to wait for the problem to reoccur so I can test.
its ok

take your time
Problem hasn't reoccurred, can't really test it until I do, would you prefer me to close the question?

Problem has not reoccurred. I will close this question and re-open when I have an instance to test on.
