Hello, i have a laptop and a pc here. Now I would like to hear the sound of the laptop's windows media player over the headset of my pc. I know it will not be real time, but thats no problem. So my idea was to capture the sound of laptop to a stream and connect to it from the pc. Does anyone know a solution for this? Please no suggestions that base on the need of buying new cables :-) Thank you.

Hi Stephan
I'm a little puzzled
>>I know it will not be real time,<< why not?
and this>Please no suggestions that base on the need of buying new cables .
Notice the silence now :)
No  new cables options.
upload all your music from the  laptop to a site and then use the PC to look in there
The problem with this make sure non of your music is copyrighted and is legitmate.
Otherwise you need to stream it via VLC or similar
but you need to be a lan then.
Otherwise run a 1/8 mono audio cable from your headset line out to line in on the PC, use a double adapter if necessary so you have PC speakers and head set
It's the easiest way and the cable /adapter is very cheap

The goal is to play a game on pc and hear the sound of the video that I'm watching on the laptop over the same headset. Both are in lan. I didn't find a way in VLC to create an audio stream that i could access from the pc while the movie is playing on laptop. Hope you understand ;-/
Hello Stephan, yeah it's getting clearer

If I understand you, you want to play a game on your PC while playing the game you want to hear the audio from a video playing on the laptop?
Seems a difficult way round.
why not do both on your PC?
If it's fast enough you could play the video on your PC in VLC ( open source so uses no ram..)  and run that in the back ground and run your game over the top?
Disable the audio in the game so all you hear is the video?
If the laptop is on a lan just share the folder to the video or copy it over via the network.

Does that help?

Hello Merete,

yes that would be my fallback solution, playing the video synchroniously on pc and laptop.

>why not do both on your PC?
Because I can not plugin my laptop screen as second monitor for PC ;-)

I will have a closer look to vlc at the weekend, again many thanks for your posts, I will give feedback.

Have a good weekend.

Stephan

So you want to watch !!  a video while you play a game? on your laptop but listen to it via a headset from  your PC and laptop in the head phones.
lol crazy, is that why you mention to capture the audio?
A bit confusing, do you need to listen to the game as well?
You misunderstood me>>>why not do both on your PC?
Because I can not plugin my laptop screen as second monitor for PC<< that's both on the PC
plat the video in VLC on your desktop and play the game in windowed mode side by side.

Otherwise just plug the headset into the laptop and listen to the movie
take it yu have your laptop next to your PC.
it can't be done without adding an audio cable with a double adapter resolves it all, you can play your video on the laptop and listen to both in the head set
use a y adapter to connect the audio out from the laptop and PC to the headset

I use a double adapter to send the audsio out from my pc to the home stereo system
and have my pc speakers at the same time

here's a snapshot of my desktop, I'm playing a video in VLC and my game side side in windowed mode.

After trying different ways it ends up as follows:

I use vlc to record the audio to a file and play it over the network on my pc while watching the video on laptop.

I tried the following:
1. Capture audio to stream and access it while streaming.
-> Didn't work because I haven't found a software that let me access the file while being recorded
2. Use a Y cable to connect the headset to both pc and laptop
-> Caused the headset to crash. My fault, I forgot to mention that it's a razer megalodon which has an integrated soundcard
3. Use an audio cable which connects laptop audio out with pc audio in (PC has an additional soundcard besides the one integrated in the headset)
-> No way to get the audio played on headset, when I plugged in the speakers it worked, I heard the sound of the movie, but unfortunately only with the soundcard.

Merete, i will accept your answer as solution because it would have worked if I would use a 'normal' soundcard. Thank you again for your time.

Stephan

Thankyou Stephan a pleasure to help out where I can
