I need to edit a scan of a document in which some words and numbers have been hand written.  Without wanting to write on the document and scan it again, how can I edit the PDF document by erasing text / images etc?

Traditionally, the only way to edit a PDF was through Adobe Acrobat, which was (and still is) prohibitively expensive.  Fortunately now there are more options for editing a PDF - some links below.  I've used PDF Edit (1st link) and thought it was pretty good - much better than buying expensive software for something I rarely need to use.

Hi

In essence, whilst you have a PDF, it is (as long as it is just a scan) only a file containing an image.

If you simply want to remove some handwritten text or type some additional text of your own, you best use a graphic editor, like Photoshop or any other image manipulation tool capable of opening PDFs.

Later on you can save it as PDF again and bring it into Acrobat for OCR if you need to or simple optimising (>PDF Optimser for scanned Documents) under Advance menu.

I'm not a photoshop user nor do I have the inclination to use it.

I'll try the other links suggested here.

You will be using the scanned file, that would be certainly in image format , not as text format ...though u can use the OCR converter..etc, that would not give u 100% result as you had excepted.

If ur not inclined towards photoshop, please try with any other photo editing tools that you feel easy to use. Best of luck...

thanks.
