Dear Experts

We've setup a VM to run Sharepoint 2010 on a Server 2008 R2 box running SQL 2008 R2

We're currently trying to start the User Profile Synchronization Service but everytime we click start and enter in the credentials it gets stuck on 'Starting' Running the service as the farm admin account, which is also part of local and domain admin group.

Really hoping someone can help us out!
I've attached screenshots and a couple of error messages below:

How long has it been stuck on starting?  Did you install appropriate hotfixes during your install process?

It stays stuck on Starting for around 10 minutes and then goes back to Stopped. After which you can repeat the process.

The server has the latest Windows Updates and Sharepoint installed a heap of prerequistes prior to install too

Is this RTM?  Is the WCF hotfix (KB976462) for Windows Server 2008 R2 is installed?

It isn't RTM and that hotfix is already installed
I found out what the problem was, our Sharepoint Server was installed as a standalone server but Profile Synchronisation only works if its installed as a farm.

Thanks for your help
