COMPSUPP used Ask the Experts™

I have setup a Windows 2008 R2 DHCP server and would like to load/stress test it.
So looking for software (hopefully free) that will act as losts of DHCP clients, that will run on WIndows xp or 7.

DHCP leases are based on MAC address so your not likely to be able to get a piece of software that will "pretend" to be lots of different MAC addresses (not legitimate anyway)
Why would you want to stress test a dhcp server? Your network would be more of a limiter then the server.

You can try to do it on your own.

Logon to Windows XP workstation and click right mouse button on My Computer -> Manage

Select "Device manager" and look for your network card. Double click it. Select "Advanced" tab and find "Locally Administered Address" or "Physical address" or simply "MAC address" this depends on network card.

Select radio button near to "Value" and set some imagined MAC address in format of 010203040506

open command line and type

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

then repeat previos procedure and change MAC again, type

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

and so on :) until you create as many lost DHCP leases as you wish

When you finish action choose second option ("Not set, automatic" or whatever it is called :]

Sorry I typed so quickly :P

you shouldn't use ipconfig /release at all !

Sorry for that mistake
