Photoshop CS3  Crash on Win 7 x64

collages used Ask the Experts™
I have 2 new Win 7 x64 machines

HP Pavilion Elite e9300z
AMD Phenom(TM) X4 925 quad-core processor [2.8GHz, 2MB L2 + 6MB L3 shared, up to 4000MHz]
640GB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive
1GB ATI Radeon HD 4850 [2 DVI, HDMI and VGA adapters]
Install of Photoshop CS3  runs without error, when I go to run the app the Photoshop window appears
but it is a gray box and hangs there indefinitely on both machines and with different install disks. I have 2 other newer HP machines running Photoshop CS3 on win 7 x 64 without any issues at all ---see specs below

HP Pavilion Elite e9210t PC
• Genuine Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
• Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Quad processor Q8300 [2.5GHz, 4MB L2, 1333MHz FSB]
6GB DDR3-1066MHz SDRAM [3 DIMMs] from 4GB
640GB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive

Thanks and let me know if there is any more info needed

Sounds like you need a BIOS update. I'd do both the Mobo and Graphics card.

I think you should uninstall - clean the registry & file remnants - and then reinstall
PS3.Then make sure you apply the patches & service packs to PS3 first.
If I remember correctly there should be a x64 fix in the installation folder somewhere...

I will give those a try and post back. Thanks
Might be worth trying to run it in Windows XP compatability mode. Admittedly it isn't consistent as Photoshop is working on some of your PC's but not others. Might be worth a try though!
If you right click on the shortcut of PS and chose the compatability tab there is a dropdown box where you can choose an older version of Windows to emulate (Shown in attached pic)
