we currently have a vs 2010 project that pulls from a local install of SQL Server 2008 R2. We want to make the program available over the net to specific users. We are using aspnet to control user access to the webforms. We Generate excel reports through vb that connects to the local SQL Server and pulls data from stored procedures to populate Excel using Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application. I am concerned that we will no longer be able to automate the Excel ss automation due to the fact that we will not be able to access Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application over the web. One way would be to code a VB front end that the user would install on local desktop, along with Excel. This was would defeat the purpose have a web based application. Another way would be to set up our own IIS Server, and open up the machine to the internet. Cost wise, a simple shared hosting plan would be an inexpensive alternative. Is there a way to move the application to the web, retaining the automation as well?
