Administrator account cannot access any Site Collections in MOSS2007

I have an installation of SP2007 and created a corporate portal web app and site collection as well as a SSP. When I set up both of these I used a domain\administrator account and once they were created a log in pop-up appears and when I enter in the correct credentials a couple of time the page goes to a "You are not authorized to view this page" page. These web apps have been created using a host header and I believe a problem is somewhere there. If I create a webapp/sitecollection without using a host header I can access the websites no problem. Does anyone know where the issue could be?

Thank you.
