Sharepoint 2007 Wont Send Emails - Using an Exchange 2010 Server
Anytime that sharepoint is supposed to send an alert or notification email, the user will receive this error :

tried it out...
didn't take care of the issue...
i'm going to try rebooting at 5pm to see if that might help after creating the connector...

Same exact error? Can you telnet to exchange server from SP? What happens if you try and relay from telnet?

checked that out already as well...
that seems to be the issue, but when i try to start the smtp virtual service on the exchange server i get this event viewer error and it wont start :

ok to boggle this up even more... we have 2 different "Applications" on our sharepoint server....
one is sharepoint.xxxxxx.com
the second portal.xxxxx.com
the email and alerts send fine from the sharepoint.xxxxx.com
they will not send from the portal.xxxxx.com site...
is this IIS related??
