Hello jimmylew52, I don't fully understand your problem, windows 7 comes with  WMP 12 and direct x11
May I ask which version of W7 you have.
Are you an administrator?
Ensure your product meets the requirements of Windows 7, it must be the latest version or it may not.

Version is W7 pro. I am aware it comes with WMP12 but that is part of the problem. The poly com software does not recognize it and WMP 9 that ithe polycom software wants to use is not compatible with W7. Yes I am an administrator on the system.

I will check the links and see if they offer any help.

I was not aware I had posted twice until I saw you comments. When I tried to submit the website complained I had only selected one area and said I should select more than one to get more input. When I said to submit anyway it took me back to the screen to submit the question so I supposed it was not submitted and I clicked submit question. Seemed odd at the time. This has happened before and the question was only submitted once. I am not sure what happened this time.

I didn't really think you did that on purpose, I've seen it happen now and then.

To clarify the problem: The driver for the Polycom is not in W7 and the software to use it will not install without WMP 9. It looks like installing XP mode is my only hope.
Windows 7 has an option to run old programs in compatible mode xp
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx
the thing is when running the newer windows old programs may not be supported with all the new high end graphics and audio etc. they want you to upgrade.
I'd suggest you contact them to save time troubleshooting something that my sourcing shows  the software is not supported on Windows 7
http://jzerden.wordpress.com/2010/04/02/polycom-pvx-video-conferencing-software-%E2%80%93-not-supported-on-the-intel-i3-i5-or-i7-no-support-for-windows-7-either/

and this is the latest version..

so looking for drivers is the next step so that the software may recognise the newer components of windows, I run older software that still uses directx 9 fine.
according to this it runs in windows 2000, xpsp2 and xpsp4 so it so it may not run on windows 7
Before the PVX software install, check the following

sorry to hear it, we all suffer this from time to time, can't keep our software even though it works fine.
Such a waste for sure.
