I uninstalled the existing version, rebooted machine and installed a fresh copy of Acrobat 9.3 Standard. I get "Adobe Acrobat 9.3 has encountered a problem and needs to close" every time I try to open the program

Try removing all Acrobat products...Standard, Reader, etc.  Reboot the PC.  Run a registry cleaner (I have been successfully using the free AML Registry Cleaner available at http://www.amltools.com for almost a year now).  NOTE:  When working with the registry, always be sure to back it up!  I'd run the scan a couple of times just to make sure that all remnants get cleaned out.  From there, reboot one more time, then reinstall Acrobat Standard.  Should take care of it for you.
I was not able to download that registry cleaner since it was listed as an unsafe site by my Trend AV software so I uninstalled all Abobe products and reinstalled from disk. Still had errors so I uninstalled again, download from web site which worked.
