Install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Setup Error

Today I installed an application Appigo Sync which requires Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 for Windows.  Unfortunately as I wasn't sure I had the most updated version, I uninstalled Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5, 3.0 and 2.0, then tried to reinstall several times and keep getting a setup error, "An error occurred during setup. Installed files have been removed from your computer." so that the package does not install.  Could you please help me to install ?  I'm running Windows XP Professional. Thanks so much.

You can try downloading and installing from the Microsoft Download Center, or you can try running Windows Update in IE.

Moonie42: This was already done, as you can see above. I received the message, "Some updates could not be installed. The following updates were not installed: Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update for .NET versions 2.0 through 3.5 (KB951847) x86. I think it may have to do with some lingering files/foldersthat need to be deleted before a clean install can be run, but I don't know locations and nature of these files.
This seems like it should help: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923100
It walks you through manually uninstalling .NET framework, after which you can reinstall.
go back using system restore then try again

I just want to say something: might help; I remembered I had hard time when I was installing sql server and .NETs. Then I realizedc it is very important to keep track on my computers bit number; For examplem my computer is 64 bit OS. It seems that it is very imporattnt. After I got the correct download that matches with my 64 bit, and I restarted, everything was ok.
run msconfig
tools
system restore go back to the pre .net installation date
