How to image a system and make it a Virtual PC with Vmware
Hello guys, I have a Windows 98 system that I NEED to keep using because of a software running on it that can't be installed in any other system (already tried that)
I will like to create an Image and make that image mount on a virtual PC under vista or 7.
I do images with Acronis but I'm not familiar with the whole process nether if the Acrons .tib image can be converted or else.
I appreciate your help.

And if that doesn't work, you can also try Vizioncore's vConverer (http://portal.vizioncore.com/); and, at the very least, download a tria version of Acronis True Image and make an image file of your 98 box, then use the Converter tool (VMware's) to convert the image to a VMware VM.

My windows 98 box is not in very good shape I don't want to install anything on it just in case.
I will prefer the option to convert from Acronis.
Thank you guys I will give it a try and let you know.

You can boot from the VMware disc and create a VM.... There are lots of options..... Give the Acronis a go, shouldnt be a problem.
If you have acronis universal restore cd you can restore tib file in vmware environment without worrying about different hardware spec.
Or you can use symantec backupexec system recovery or true image echo server to converting image file to vmdk or vhd.

OK guys the Imaging from My W7 pc to the w98 gives me an error Message.
Unable to connect to remote Vmware Agent
The Remote host is not Accessible Using Microsoft Networ Services.
I'll check the other ideas in the mid time.
I can't boot the W98 PC with my Acronis Boot disk, I guess is too old for it.
Is a PII slot A with 64 mb ram.
Can't make the image so far with anything

I know I can take the Drive out but it is SCSI and I can move the Card too, just I didn't want to touch this PC much at all,
If you were listening to the noises the HD makes your wouldn't ether.

Hmm...your options are getting quite limited at this piont "sirexilon". Did you try vConverter from Vizioncore? Let me know how that goes...
Also...Symantec has their image solution (Recovery Backup?) you can try as a trial...

did you try the VMware converter?
You can either boot from this CD, or you can install the agent on the w98 machine.

the process is called Physical to Virtual... or P2V.....
You install this on the 98 machine, and convert it to virtual... then you can run it on your VMware server in Windos 7..
its free too!
