How to setup MX record for a different domain name to the Primary Domain.

Hi

Im trying to setup an MX record on our PDC for a sister company.

This company has a totally different domain name and is a .com (primary is .co.uk)

I have instructed our web host to setup an MX record that points mail to www.u-phorm.com to our static IP address.

From reading through solutions on here it says to add a new mail exchanger to the primary forward looup zone.  However when i try and do this i get an error saying "name is invalid"  when i enter u-phorm.com as the host.

am i doing this correctly?

also our exchange 2010 is on a different server so will i need to do anything to forward on the mail to that with a mx record?

any help would be great.

thanks.

When configuring MX records you need to do the following

in the DNS for your domain (u=phorm.com) create the following records:

mail.u-phorm.com and point it to your public IP (this should be the same as the other domain)
then create an MX record that points to mail.u-phorm.com

ah ok

so i need an actual domain for u-phorm.com in DNS then because at the moment we dont.

we only have the primary domain and thats it.

Can i create a new domain relativly easily without effecting logged on users and move people across?

No the u-phorm.com DNS is your EXTERNAL DNS control panel for that domain name.

right,

our primary domain is itstraining.co.uk

so im guessing i would need to setup some sort of child domain off the back of this as u-phorm.com?

no.
presumably you have purchased u-phorm.com?

You need to logon to your control panel for that domain, it has nothing to do with itstraining.co.uk it's completely seperate.
