We have a SBS 2003 w/ 2003 Exchange Server SP2 which is also a main domain controller. We want to migrate everyone to a Windows Server 2008 STD server w/ Exchange STD server.

We have about 35 users, with a total of 45GB DB size. All users have about 1GB mailbox size or a little more.

I want the Exchange 2010 to be the only exchange box...

Can someone provide me with the exact steps to follow from the initial install of Exchange 2010 to the actual migration (move mailboxes, configure SSL, SMTP, POP3 connectors) and going live?

This is my first time migration and much help would be appreciated.

Thanks

oh WOW! That's what i was looking for.. THANKS!!!

One quick question, do i really need to make my Win Server 2008 a primary DC? Can't i just leave the primary DC on the SBS 2003 and make this Win Server 2008 a member server joined to the domain?

To be honest I am not sure, SBS is designed as a complete unit and I have never tried to run Exchange 2010 for a prolonged period of time with SBS2003.

The guide is designed to replace SBS2003 with Windows 2008 R2 and Exchange 2010

No you are correct, i will be migrating from SBS 2003 to Win Server 2008 tomorrow evening.

Everything looks good so far, this will be my first migration ever and from the looks of it, looks fairly simple. I will update this thread as i run into issues!

Thanks again!!

U must have all FSMO role to SBS server.

If you have multiple domain controllers in a domain that contains a Windows SBS-based domain controller, you must transfer the operations master roles from the other domain controllers to the Windows SBS-based domain controller

ChangarS,
They are all for migrating to SBS2008, nothing to do with SBS2003 to Windows Standard.

Correct, i'm migrating from a SBS 2003 to Win Server 2008 w/ Exchange 2010. I'd like to leave SBS 2003 as the primary domain controller and join Win Server 2008 to the domain.
