HP 2600N will not print black
HP 2600N will not print black, but prints colors. All cartridges are good.
Any thoughts

If you go into printer preferences do you have toner levels?
ASKER
No, and a little more info:
As is typical with the 2600n, this unit developed the fading colors. So I cleaned per instructions on the web. Colors print fine now acccording to the config report printout, but I have no black.
Thanks

I had to ask but was the toner release tab on the toner removed?
ASKER
Yes, first thing I checked.
Have you tried the calibration tools on the menu pages?

No only color.
Try another toner cartridge - assume you are already using HP and the supplies settings aren't set to Override.
Try an engine test page (see p 125 of the Service Manual) do you get black lines?

Using HP, have not wanted to make the expensive purchase but may have to.
Did the engine test and everything but black prints.

Had tried the supplies setting both ways.
I think this has already been asked but was this cartridge working before you did the cleaning?

Unless you have another 2600N you can put this cartridge in there may be no other way to check - if the cartridge is bad you'll get a replacment Q6000A through HP.

Here is all I know from my friend:
"We're having some problems with our printer. We recently replaced the black ink cartridge, and about a month later the 3 color cartridges. For some reason, we are now unable to obtain a printed page, just some faint colors."
So after cleaning, all the colors came back and no black. The indicators on the menu show the 3 colors full and the black about 3/4.

Replaced the cartridge, till no black.
If it stopped immediately after the colors were fixed (assuming the fix was to clean the mirrors) there's a good chance the both the black and color cables had to be disconnected.
Worth taking it apart again and checking all the connections are good. The only other thing I can think of is your formatter has gone bad but the repair is too much of a co-incidence to ignore.

I have torn it down several times, I too thought it may be a connection on the ribbon. But it apears that the black and yellow are on the same and the yellow prints in the engine test.
