I need to automatically get the information for some fields from the last item entered to be loaded into the New Item form upon loading.  I would imagine that this is done via JavaScript, though I don't know for certain.  Please provide code showing how to get the information from the last item and automatically populate the new form.  Thanks!

no, javascript is not enough because you need to get data from server-side object model. You need to combine javascript with custom web part which will take last item data from server and put it on the client in HTML field or javascript global var. Then put onLoad javascript function which get that client side data from your custom WP.

I've increased the point value - can you add some actual code (either VB or C# will do) for accessing the SP object model and JS for populating the form?
