I have an ESX Server within my VM Workstation. And I have another VM in workstation running XP.

For some reason, I cannot get the XP machine to ping the ESX Server. They are both on the same network and on a class B

The ESX Server says "disconnected" for VMnet0 because naturally I think ESX ties to your physical adapter. Even if I put the physical adapter with a static IP on the same network, it doesn't connect. The laptop is not connected to the network, it's simply a lab.

I'm sure this is a simple issue. Just getting XP to ping ESX within VM Workstation. I can easily do this with two XP VMs.

Could you confirm that the network adaptor is configured as bridged and also the option "replicate physical network connection" is checked to be able to talk to the workstation.

Processors : The execution mode should be selected as Execution Mode is set to “Intel VT-x or AMD-V.

FYI: You can install ESX Server or ESXi inside Workstation however you cannot install VMware Server 1.x or 2.x inside Workstation.

Damn, got it to work. I can't believe I forgot to check the box on ESX that says "Connected" in network adapters. I found that out as you mentioned to check the replicate physical network so I owe it to you.

Spent an hour on that until it came to me.
