We have a new server and my machine hasn't connected to it yet.  I was connected to the old servers Exchange Server 2007 with a my Outlook 2007.  Is there a way to resync my contacts and emails back into the new Exchange Server's data store?

The best way is for the person who set-up the new server to use a program called exmerge, which you can download from Microsoft http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=429163ec-dcdf-47dc-96da-1c12d67327d5&displaylang=en
This will export all of the messages from the old server to .pst files, and re-import them to the new server.

The other option if the old server is still available is to export them to a .pst and import them yourself using outlook.

Step1
Set outlook to use the old server, then select file>import and export. Choose export to  a file, click next and choose "personal folders file (.pst)". Click next and select the top of the folder tree which should be something like "mailbox Bill Smith" Make sure you select the check box titled "include sub folders"

Click next and specify a location for the exported .pst file.

Step2
Once this is done, connect outlook to the new server and run through the procedure again, but select "import from another program or file" then "personal folders file (.pst)". Under file to import chose the file that you exported in step1.
accept the defaults from here on in, make sure it is importing the items into the same folder in your new mailbox.

I hope this helps

Cheers
Dave

I can see all my contacts now but were I rejoin my computer to the domain I'm going to lose them.  I'd like somehow to reload everything from my cached pst file in Outlook 2007 into Exchange Server 2007.

dont rejoiin it

If you can see your mails and contacts in cached mode - do this

go to
Start > run

type

outlook /nopollmail

This will start outlook in offline mode - so that it doesnt start looking for your exchange server.

then from menu > Go > Folder List.
Select your Mailbox Name on top

then file > Import Export
Export to A file
Personal Folders (.PST)

Save it to desired folder.

Then connect your outlook to new exchange.
and import the PST back from File > import export.

Can you do this for the entire folder and then import it once the machine is re-joined to the domain?

this will do this for the whole mailbox.

When you are importing / exporting - make sure you do not select any subfolders like inbox / etc.
Select the mailbox - name on the top

Try this and let me know if it works. Otherwise we will have to find some other way to do this. :-)
