Netware 6.5 SP6 - NSS-2.70-5005: Volume FS_1/SYS user data write After Power Cut
Hi,
I have a client with an HP Proliant ML350 G5 running Novell Netware 6.5 SP6 Small Business Suite, with Groupwise. They experienced a power cut on the 2nd July and since then they keep losing connectivity with the server. The only way to restore connectivity is a reboot (that I know of). The Novell Client for Windows says two things:
NSS-2.70-5005: Volume FS_1/SYS user data write
and
NSS-3.00-5001: Pool FS_1/SYS is being deactivated.
I have checked the abend logs and attach the most recent one to this question.
I am very inexperienced with Novell and would appreciate a certain amount of hand-holding in the suggestions you come up with. Please assume I know very little about the OS - I won't be offended if you teach me to suck eggs!
Thanks!

It looks from the symptoms and the history of a power outage that the sys volume and NSS pool have been corrupted. You can rebuild the sys pool with the follwing instructions:
1. At the DOS prompt from C:\NWSERVER, bring up the server by typing (this will bring up the server without activating the Pool):
server -z"/poolautodeact={pool}" Include the quotes. Replace {POOL} with your pool name, e.g. server -z"/poolautodeact=SYS"
2. Run the pool rebuild:
NSS /poolrebuild={POOL} ("NSS /poolrebuild" without the pool name should bring up a menu and allow you to select the pool that you want to rebuild.)

Thanks for the quick response. I'll try that tomorrow and post back how it goes.

I did the pool rebuild on Wednesday and it bombed out about 10% through (server powered off without warning) so I ran it again and it completed successfully. It ran OK yesterday but I had an email from my client this morning that it failed again.
I'm going to run the HP SmartStart CD to run some diagnostics on the box to see if it's hardware. If anyone else has other ideas though, I'd be grateful. Also, if you need the abend log posting again let me know.
