Lotus Notes User Can't Open Client

I am not that familiar with Lotus Notes, so please bear with me. User has Notes version 5.0.4a. Problem is with two users, when they start their notes client, they get the following error "This database is being used by someone else. In order to share a notes database, all users must use a Domino server instead of a file server". Researching this error, I find very little and most of it is related to the whole notes database and not individual users.

All other users have a different problem. They can log in, but can't just click the mail icon. If you go and open their database manually, then they can access their mail.

So I don't know if these problems are related, but really I'm concerned about the first issue as it is preventing them from getting to their mail totally. I have restarted the notes server and that didn't help.

First Issue: They have AV on the clients and the server, but this is not new. I will try disabling it out of interest.

Second issue: I will try that, thanks!
5.04 is really ancient and hasn't been supported for years. If possible, it would be a good idea to upgrade as it may solve a lot of u= issues.

I would also check the log.nsf on the server to see if there are any errors.

I hope this helps !

I disabled the AV on the server and also did a dbcache flush, but it didn't help.

As for the version, I know its old. The client has been holding on to this and their Novell 6.0 network as long as possible. Now the Novell server has crashed and all these problems have started.

I think I have all the IDs. The issue seems to be that some of the information was stored on the (now dead) Novell server. The problem right now is the issue seems to be spreading. USers who were functional are now getting these "database is in use" errors.

I'm trying to use backup IDs, but those cause certificate issues. We'll just hve to keep plugging away.

Thanks for all the feedback. I will continue to work to get this going, but I think this is all the information I need for now. I will open another question if problems persist.

Thanks!
