Please have a read through my Exchange 2003 / Activesync article and check your pre-requisites, iis settings, run the tests and if all is well, then please make sure you have added the registry key mentioned:
http://www.experts-exchange.com/Software/Server_Software/Email_Servers/Exchange/A_1798-Exchange-2003-Activesync-Connection-Problems-FAQ.html
Registry Key (on the server):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\VirusScan
ProactiveScanning      REG_DWORD      1

Thanks for that I did go through the list and there was a couple of things missing from my exchange confi however it hasn't helped.

What is odd is that some users connect fine for email and some don't even do that and no user can get calendar's.

I do in fact have a certificate from godaddy which uses a address which isn't that my FQDN however it is the address I use to connect the phones you have suggest that may be an issue shall I remove the cert to test?

any other suggestions

Thanks,

No - don't change anything please.
Run the Exchange Activesync test on https://testexchangeconnectivity.com, specify manual server settings and report back the results.
If you post the domain / IP details (by mistake), I can remove them later.

If you could expand the test results and post the entire report that would be brilliant.
Thanks

Interestingly, if I try to visit https://lxxx.yourdomain.com/microsoft-server-activesync I get a 404 error (File or Directory not found).
Something is not right with your configuration.
