extend primary partition windows server 2008?

my windows 2003 server with raid1 with two 72GB disk was running low in diskspace. i've upgraded the disk to 148GB each and the server was still reading the disk was 72GB. i was told to upgrade the server to windows 2008 and it would allow me to extend the disk. can anyone assist? i am not able to extend my primary disk to the maximum size.

I think if you try upgrading your disk to dynamic then try extending it.

Please DO NOT convert the disk to Dynamic - it is not necessary.
Worst case, download GPARTED (http://gparted.sourceforge.net/ which is free) and resize your OS partition.
BUT - Whatever you do - make sure you have a full backup of the server before you contemplate any partition resizing tools.  They can kill your server.
