Hello experts,

I have 4 servers:
1x HP ProLiant ML350 G3
2x Dell PowerEdge 2950
1x clone with an Adaptec 2000S Ultra160 SCSI RAID Controller
All servers are running on windows 2003
I would like to know what is the best way to monitor the healt of the disks and arrays so that if one disk fails or shows signs of failure, I will be advised as soon as possible.
Is it possible to receive an email warning??,… does the server beep when failure is detected??
I would appreciate if someone could provide me with the methods and/or software for each servers
Thank you
bob

Take a look at monitorware agent. This will suit all of your needs.

How to monitor a Software-Raid on Windows 2003 by using the EventLog Monitor of MonitorWare Agent.

Forgot to mention, all raids are hardware.

No product exists that will monitor SMARTArray, Dell, and Adaptec controllers.  This question is pretty much beat to death every few months.  The APIs are all vendor-specific/proprietary.
You are going to have to run each vendor's software tools separately and configure them within the constraints that each allow.  The agent programs sill require vendor-specific code to actually talk to the hardware

As for managing software RAID,  you can do something simple with powershell:

$diskcheck=gwmi win32_diskdrive -computer "SERVER1" -filter "Status <> 'OK'"
if ($diskcheck) {"do something here"}

What I would like to have is a link to each vendors software and some hints on how to configure to be alerted by email if possible

I already know that for dell it is openmanager, but I have not installed it yet

but for

1x HP ProLiant ML350 G3
1x clone with an Adaptec 2000S Ultra160 SCSI RAID Controller

I have not found anything yet

thank you

Go to the support.hp.com and adaptec sites, downloads, and find drivers & management software for your particular controller & OS.  While you are there, since you have obviously never been at each site before, take opportunity to upgrade drivers, firmware, and management software.  Read release notes also as sometimes the order of upgrading is important.

The management software is in form of a CLI program, as well as windows app (i am assuming windows, but versions exist for several other operating systems).
You have to install vendor management program to get the details about RAID and other system information.

HP - Download System Management utility from the HP website
Dell - Download open manage software from the Dell website

Once you installed you can configure email notification through these softwares.

Best,

HP - Download System Management utility from the HP website
I have "HP System Management Homepage for Windows " installed is it the same thing?
It seem's like there is not much to do and configure in this software
I also have:
HP ProLiant Array Configuration Utility (CLI) for Windows"
"HP ProLiant Array Configuration Utility for Windows"
"HP ProLiant Array Diagnostics Utility for Windows"

but still can't find what I want.
Is Insight Manager good for me?
