BMC Remedy Connection for Crystal Reports

Hi to all,

Our reporting department created  5 - 10 Crystal reports for our BMC Remedy system. They tasked me to create an application to export these reports on a daily basis so that they don't need to do this manually. I am having issues setting up the connection for these reports and was wondering if someone could help me with that.

I am using Visual Studio 2008. The connection used is the AR System ODBC driver that is installed when the "User" part of the application is installed. The .Dll for that connection is: arodbc70.dll. The reports was already created and all I have to do is to run the report and export the results.

I am used to SQL Crystal Reports and do not have ANY experience connecting via ODBC, so please be patient.

Thanks

Did they use a system DSN or a user DSN to create the reports?

You need to create the same ODBC connection on your machine that they have.

If you aren't changing the connection the report should be able to be run through the application without changing it.

They used a user created DSN. If I create the same ODBC connection, what would that look like? My DSN name is "BMCDat", UserName is "myUserName" and my password is "thePassword". Could you help me with a sample of this ODBC connection?
Some of the reports run through my application with no issues which tells me that they used the connection above to create the reports, but some is not working and asking for a username and password. I need to accommodate that as well and that is why I am trying to set the connection for all reports.
Thanks

You create the ODBC connection through the CONTROL PANEL

mlmcc,
I created my ODBC connection using the control panel. I run my application, but it is still asking for a username and password. What am I doing wrong? Code below:

Private Sub secondTesting()
        Dim cryRpt As New ReportDocument
cryRpt.Load("location of my file") 'TSR TEAM 1 Combination.rpt"
        cryRpt.ExportToDisk(ExportFormatType.PortableDocFormat, "G:\BMC Remedy Export\Test.pdf")

    End Sub

If you supply the user/password does the report work?

No,
It keeps on saying that the login failed for that user. I am used to SQL Connections and that is why am trying to trouble shoot this. I think this is where my issue lies.

I assume the report works in the Crystal designer?

mlmcc

Commented:
That is correct. It works perfectly on the report designer's computer. This is a different computer with only the Visual Studio Crystal reports installed. It does not have the full version of Crystal Reports installed.

Were the reports designed in a full version of Crystal or using the version in VS 2008?
If a full version then what version?

mlmcc

Commented:
The full version of Crystal Reports and they are using Crystal Reports 11.

What did you install on the machine?

Did you include the database dlls for Crystal?

Did you use the merge modules or the runtime files?

This is my development PC. I have Visual Studio 2008 with the crystal reports that comes with Visual Studio. I have not even started thinking about deploying the application because I can't get it working on my development PC.

I can't say this for sure but I suspect your version doesn't work with VS2008.  I know they had to release a new version of CR XI for VS2005

You can get the free trial here.  It should be a free upgrade for you.  Look for CR Release 2

CR XI Release 2 is version 11.5.x.xxx

Mlmcc,
That did not make any difference to my issue. I will continue to try and look for a solution.

Do you have permissions to the database?

Are you running the report from an application?

Can you modify the report?
If so use the DATABASE --> SET DATABASE LOCATION  option to change the report to use your DSN.

Thanks for the Help mlmcc. It was a number of issues in the end that contributed to the connection issues.
