DFSR deleting folder and files

I have a parent and child domain, I have DFS setup at both sites with  mesh replication.  This morning I come in and see that about 75% of my files and folders are gone, they are all in the conflicts and deleted folders, what is weird is that the data on the server in the far side (child domain) is never live, its just a backup that we have stored at that site in case something like this happened, so there should have not been a situation where the data on the receiving side would have been  changed to cause a conflict.  How can I diagnose the problem to stop it from happening and how can I restore all of the files from the conflicts and deleted directory, as all of these have now been morphed into new file/folder names.
