mail Delivery Problems
I'm having problems with mail delviery on my exchange 2010 server. A lot of replies and emails seem to be getting sent to the administrator@ email even when the email header is stating it should be sent to a specific user (that DOES exist)
internal exchange email is fine, only external mail if being problematic.

Is the administrator set as teh default mailbox? If so, any mail sent to your domain, but not a specific address will end up in the admin box. If you aren't sure, you can test the theory by sending mail to a non-existant address in your domain from an outside mail source.
Go to http://www.mxtoolbox.com/ and https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com/ to test your server

yes it is, the problem is mail to valid users is not getting delivered. I just sent myself 3 test emails, they were collected from the catchall but seem to disappear when exchange grabs them
did you change the default domain from .local to .com if your internal domain name is different from your external in exchange?
ASKER
all tests passed on ExRCA. mail is being collected from the POP3 catchall but then disappears, it is not delivered to users.
I ran the Exchange Troubleshooting Assistant and i get th following error:
Error submitting mail
Mail submission failed: Error message: Server does not support secure connections..

@CincyItSolutions. Are you referring to the default recieve connector?
no, under organizational configuration > hub transport > accepted dmains. This should be changed from your internaldomain.local to your externaldomain.com
ASKER
Yep, default already set to our external (.com) domain
Strange. Is there any settings that would forward the message from theuser to the admin account? I can't think of any reason why the email would be going to the Admin if the user in question actually exists. Is it multiple receipients that are having this issue or just one or two? Sounds as if mail is flowing ok as the admin is getting the messages.
ASKER
nope, i have nothing setup to forward mail to the admin - i know one of the users email was spelt wrong, which would explain why it was sent to admin, but the rest are all valid.
Is this a single exchange server in your organization? Is it running on a DC or a member server?
ASKER
single exchange box, we have DC on another box
