Adobe Acrobat 7 printer on Windows 7 64bit doesn't install

My windows 7 32 bit computer crashed, and when I reinstalled I used Windows 7 64bit. When I try to install Adobe Acrobat 7 (which worked on win7-32) the PDF printer doesn't install. Error message is attached, but it says:
Warning 20225. Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Setup was unable to create a new item: Adobe PDF Port & Printer. The Adobe PDF printer may be unavailable.
GetLastError: The operation completed successfully.

I have put program access control to the lowest level, but that didn't help this program.

Any suggestions on what might be wrong and how to install this? I would rather not pay $100 for an upgrade to version 9.

Thank you.

Acrobat 7 is not entirely compatible with 64-bit platforms.  You'll need to either go back to Win7 32-Bit, or upgrade to Acrobat 8.1 or later (current version is 9.3.x).  refer to for further information and known limitations.
You can the manual process, it may work:

Start -> Control Panel -> Devices and Printers -> Add a printer
Add a local printer -> Use an existing port:
Documents\*.pdf (Adobe PDF) -> Have Disk... -> Browse to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\Xtras\AdobePDF\" and open "AdobePDF.inf"

There should be a lot of "Adobe PDF Converter" on the list, however, number six (from the top) should work -> Printer name: Adobe PDF -> The rest should be self explanatory

I would also just recommend you upgrade to 8.1 or later if this fails. You can look around and find version 8 pretty cheap ($30 on ebay Then just upgrade to 8.1 for free This will fix the problem and give you extra features.

prestonw: the manual install doesn't work. I have version 7, not 9, and I don't have the PDF existing port. Upgrading is a possiblity, but money is incredibly tight right now, and I am wary about some of these ebay sellers.
moonie42: Thank you for the info. It does look like acrobat 7 will not work.

You could try these instructions to create a port (it doesn't need to be version 9 to work). These instructions could work but definitely would for ver 8.

Trusted sellers on eBay are quite safe, but you are right to be wary of some. I would recommend looking around car boot sales etc as I find out of date versions of software (legal versions boxed) quite cheap (just check the box that the disc is there!).

You could just use a free pdf printer, one that works great is bullzip

Good luck.

what instructions for creating the PDF port?
