Greetings,

What is the correct procedure to upgrade an HMC from v5r2.1 to 7.3.4.  Is this a multi phase upgrade or can the HMC be wiped and re-installed with 7.3.4?  What is the quickest way to accomplish this?

First verify that your FSP firmware level is high enough to be compatible with 7.3.4. If the HMC is low, firmware is almost always behind as well.  The two levels need to be compatible to ensure that they work together.

You can wipe the HMC and re-install, observing the above and documenting the managed server configuration, e.g. resource allocations, in case you cant recover the config. This will likely be the fastest method.

It is a multi-step upgrade as i recall. Would need to check the IBM website to confirm.
