After looking at my Rogers bill, I found out that I am paying $15 / month for renting the modem that I would rather avoid. I called Rogers tech support and they say that I am unable to purchase this particular modem because I have a static IP address and that there is some sort of settings on the modem that relate directly to my static IP. Does anyone have any information on if this is true? If so, what is it?
I currently have a dual WAN router setup. One ISP is Bell, the other is Rogers. As far as what I can tell, all my settings is in the dual WAN router (User / Pass / Gateway / etc). The Rogers modem is exactly that, just a modem. Is there anyway to verify this?
I've found out that I am able to purchase the modem from a number of places (Same brand / model number as what I have). I am curious on if I was to purchase the exact same modem, would I be able to give the Rogers modem back and avoid the rental charge?
Does anyone here have Rogers with a static IP address that either purchased the modem or found a way to avoid the modem rental charges?
