IE8 Opens a new window instead of refreshing the current one

When using a feature in Salesforce.com to import contacts, IE7 would display a pop-up telling me the contact was imported correctly with an OK button displayed.  After clicking the OK button, the original web page was refreshed amd the new information displayed.

With IE8, the same procedure causes a NEW web page to be opened after click the OK button, and it keeps the old page opened as well.  SO instead of refreshing the original page, it just opens a new one with the updated information and leave the old, outdated page open too.

I have been searching the setting to see how to fix this and can't find anything.  Salesforce.com tech support could not give me a solution.  Any thoughts?

Go to "Tools" in IE8 and into the "Internet settings". Test the different "Tab settings" in  to see which one makes it behave the way you want it to.
See the screenshot...

Thanks for the response, Bits..

I have tried all sorts of combinations on that menu and nothing did the trick.
Have you tried to click on the "Compatibility Icon" that comes up (sometimes) at the right of the address bar? It definitely seems to be a compatibility issue...

Also... When you tried the different combinations above.... Did you restart IE8 ... it is finicky if you don't restart it....

Sorry for the delayed response.

I have restarted IE after each change. Also, the compatibility icon didn't help, sadly.  I think the application is just not compatibile with IE 8.
