How do you setup DNS for Windows SBS 2008

One of my clients has some issues such as slow logon and accessing Exchange. When I check the status of the DNS using nslook, it shows Default Server:  UnKnown and it is use IPv6 IP as DNS as shown below. Should we setup IPv4 IP or IPv6 IP as primary DNS IP?

If using IPv6 as DNS IP is fine, how do yuo fix unknown default server?

Technically you would create a Reverse Lookup Zone for the subnet and drop a record into it for the server's IP address.

While IPv6 is left on, it is done so primarily for the internal communication purposes of the server components running in SBS 2008.

first set IPv4 parameters and then get back to ipv6
If your IPv4 Reverse Lookup Zones are mucked up, there are other problems.

Run the Fix My Network Wizard from the Network tab in the SBS Console.

Philip
Is DNS up and running on that box?

Yes, the DNS is running and IPv4 Forward and reverse Lookup Zones have been setup. Why does the nslookup display Default Server:  UnKnown. Is this by design?

Fix My Network Wizard doesn'r see any errors.
For fun -- uncheck IPv6 from the nic, and see if things 'work'

If that resolves it, re-enable it.  See if DNS is bound to your IPv6 addresses as well.

Please do not disable IPv6. There will be no "fun" in what happens.

Philip
He can re-enable it, but it's a valid test to see if that's where the issue lies.  We're troubleshooting.  You have to rule things out.
That's what the Fix My Network Wizard is for on SBS 2008.

Philip
Ya, fix my network wizard didn't resolve the issue, he's tried that.

Do me a favor. Could someone check his sbs nsllokup? I have two sbs, alll of them show:
Default Server:  UnKnown
Address:  fe80::de82:990d:6ea5:341

Is this normal? Can you post your result?
