OWA 2007 Skipping users in Address Book Browsing

Last Modified: 2012-05-09
For some reason at one site when users login to the OWA and go to the Address Book using the To: link, and then scroll through the address book after about 6 pages it skips a page without any error. You would only notice it if you were looking for it, but for us some of our most important people ar eon that page and its annoying management.

If you skip past a page, going back will actually show the page with the skipped addresses.

None of this happens to clients connected via Outlook, or via LDAP queries.

We have 50 contacts per page, and for us it happens in the R's, when we skip over to the T's, pushing previous page shows allof the R's it skipped over going forward through the address book.

This was really subtle and took us a little while to even take the complaining users seriously, but it is reproducible on our system (or anyone on any system using our OWA).

Any hints ? Clues ? Lines of Investigation ?
Watch Question

are you able to use the auto complete after typing a first few letters of users in  the missing contacts in outlook address book ?
 like   type  ro

it should give names that containg "ro"

Is this only when you try using OWA within the company or have you also tried externally ?

The problem is most likely within IIS /OAB.

Check the event log as well to see if you see any errors there (such as OagGEN could not generate full details etc)

Also if you add new people in the exchange server, do you see theese new people in the GAL (in outlook and in owa?)

Yes Auto-Complete Works.

Happens externally and internally.

New people appear in the GAL, no event log errors.

Also this only happens with full version not the lite version of OWA.
You would need to find a pattern for which user this affects to, if not all the users who are using the full version.
If its not all users this sounds more like a client issue and not an issue within the actual exchange server configuration ?

Also a stupid question here, have you updated your exchange server to the latest updates (update rollup etc) ?.

It affects all users of the full version. And yes all exchange updates applied. This client is a Jewish school and this particular page that gets skipped always is full of Rabbi XXXXX other than that no patterns stand out.

No one else around ? No ideas ?
Well, recreate the OAB, reset the OAB Virtual Directory in IIS 7.0

After this go to EMC -> organization cofniguration -> Mailbox -> Offline Address Book -> open it and choose Address Lists -> here include the following -> All Users and All Contacts -> click apply and restart your Exchange server ?

Post your results

P.S Sorry for the late response <--- work is hell atm

I am happy to regenerate address books, but it does not explain why the lite version works fine but the full version has this bug. Will report shortly.

This is still happneing, regenerating all address books fixes nothing... any other desperate hints ?
