Create Exchange Account with no AD?
How do I create an email for someone without having to create them an account in AD?
I dont think it is possible to have an exchange mailbox without an AD account. Explain better what you are trying to accomplish and we may have some better advice.

We had an employee who left the company so I removed his AD account and Purge his Exchange account.
I had all of his email sent to a different person. Well now that I purge his email, no emails are getting through. I want to re-create his email basically.....

If you want the user to have a mailbox it must be attached to an AD account. You can obviously have an AD account with no mailbox but not vice versa.
Like dcmast said, provide more information and there might be a different way to resolve your issue.

is the mailbox still in a disconnected state?

So person A left the company and you had forwarding or something setup that any inbound mail that went to him was fowarded to person B? You can just add person A's email address as a secondary SMTP address to person B if all you want is to have his mail go directly. You could also re-create the user's AD and mailbox and put back in the forwarding you had before.
If you want to access the old mail he had in his mailbox you need to either re-attach that disconnected mailbox to an AD account or restore from backup.

This is what i was talking about in my posting. I have these additional SMTP addresses associated with my account. None of them have mailboxes on our end but I still receive their mail.

I went into the secondary user AD account and added the SMTP account from user one already under exchange.
Would it not work now because I purged his email?

What happens when you send to that address? Do you get an NDR.

xxdcmast: The image you have, thats exactly what I did already. My only concern is that his email have been purged. His mailbox does not show in the Exchange System Manager.
ASKER
xxdcmast: The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this message was sent to. Check the e-mail address, or contact the recipient directly to find out the correct address.
Do you have any kind of spam filter in place? We run postini and i know if there isnt an entry for each email address in there it willl NDR even if the account exists.
What version of exchange are you running? How long has the secondary email address been in the system for? Just wondering if exchange might need to do its thing for a litlt ebit

Just curious, Would it be easyier just to recreate an AD account which will create an exchange account, then remove his AD account?
Ok just for the heck of it and to help us rule out some stuff. Lets try this.
On the secondary user create a completely new secondary SMTP address. Call it completelynew@company.com
Then try sending to that. Do you still get the NDR message?
This will tell us if its a problem with just the deleted account or any secondary address.

xxdcmast: I did not get a NDR after creating a test secondary SMTP.
OK, can you explain the steps you took to "purge" the email account? Did you perhaps delete the AD account but not answer yes to delete the associated email account?
ASKER
GKalosky: I right click and removed his account in AD then I remember a box popping up that says "Mark each selected exchange mailbox for deletion" which is check (i am unable to uncheck it) then the next day, i go into exchange server, find his the mailbox which has a red x, right click and purge.
