Adding a Fax Printer after removing it

Last Modified: 2012-05-09
To All,

I was troubleshooting my Fax Services on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 x64 SP2, and I removed the Fax Services and then reinstalled it. Now, the Fax Printer does not display under the list of Printers, and my users are unable to connect to it.

How would I go about adding either a new fax printer or recovering the lost fax printer?

Thanks, I appreciate the quick response, but that was the original article I read to set up the fax server.

The issue here now is that there isn't much documentation on Fax Services in terms of troubleshooting. It's a MS service that's not too terribly difficult or have much depth, so there isn't much help I can really find regarding my issue.

Maybe I'll give some background on my situation:
I implemented two modems into my server, then implemented one of my fax lines into the machine. That line was able to receive and set faxes easily. However, I tried to implement a second line into the unused modem (which was unsuccessful btw), and with a bit of troubleshooting, I had uninstalled the Shared Fax Printer. The faxes are still able to be received, but the Fax Printer was unable to be found. Users could not connect to the missing printer and print faxes.

So, what I'm thinking is that upon uninstalling/reinstalling Fax Services, it may have changed a driver or registry key that affected the primary Fax Printer that was shared. My question is: what troubleshooting steps can I go about in order to find the missing Fax Printer? Or, what steps can I do to completely clear any registry keys of the Fax Service in general and just implement it again from scratch (this time with just one Fax Printer)?

That looks like exactly what I want. I will report back after the end of the business day when I can restart the server. I hope it works, barring that I didn't FUBAR the service by doing too much uninstalling/reinstalling.

I did not come across the article by myself, so it was a big help to have that pointed out to me.
