Terminal Services connections and Exchange 2010

A question about whether Exchange 2010 and Terminal Services MUST reside at the same facility or site has been raised.  Does Exchange 2010 servers require that users connecting via Terminal Services, have both the Exchange Servers and Terminal Services servers coexist in the same facility?
We are planning an Exchange 2010 migration from some legacy emails systems, and this question was asked. Need some insight from the Exchange Experts.

They do not need to be at the same facility.  Inorder to connect depends on your network setup.  If you are connecting your facilitys via VPN then you dont need to do anything special.  If you are not connected via VPN then you will needed to setup and external way of connecting.  There are many external ways including POP3 connection.

Thanks for the quick response.
We plan on using a (mpls) dedicated circuit between our 2 sites.  Since the users will be using Terminal Servers, should we also think about enabling caching in Exchange 2010, or will the lag or delay be miminal for the users?

What are the connection speed and how many users?

Now it would be smarter to put the terminal server and exchange together on the same network since it will be less bandwidth, but if you have to separate them it is possible.

A 30 mg mpls circuit, approximately 1300 users total, consecutive mail connections of about 450 users was what I was informed. Thanks,
