Hi, I am trying to install Java SDK in my linux box and I downloaded java_ee_sdk-6u1-unix.sh from

However during installation, it says it is going to also install GlassFish. I am not getting why it is going to install something called GlassFish. Can't I install SDK without it ??
Watch Question

GlassFish is an application server for deploying distributed Java EE applications.  If you do not intend to develop applications which are distributed via the web, then you do not need GlassFish. If this is the case then you may be better off the Standard Edition of the SDK.

I couldn't find SDK alone.. and I think this is the one which comes with minimal utilities (I may be wrong too)

Just for clarification, Sun refers to a Java SDK as JDK, so you're looking for the Java SE JDK!

Hope this helps.

The requirement was java from Sun. That's why I am after it.

By the way, if you look at http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp, SDK comes either with Glassfish or JavaFX.

Doesn't java ship SDK alone nowadays ??

Ohh again, Java SDK with JavaFX works for windows only.

In that case, I need to download "Java SE Development Kit 6u21 for Linux" . Is that correct ?
Yes this is the one, but I would still recommend using your package manager to install it. I'm sure there will be a repository that contains this very kit.

For instance, on Ubuntu I can install if from the multiverse repository using

sudo apt-get intall sun-java6-jdk
