I only have one version of Excel running on the machine. It is Office 2003 Pro. <br />
<br />
I can't afford any later versions right now, but this one should work as expected without having to upgrade.<br />

Fair enough, it should, but I would suggest updating the software to the latest version as bugs and glitches do get through at times. <br />

Whenever I open an .xls attachement from Outlook, the Office installer runs a brief install routine and then opens the attachment. This install routine does not run all the time when I open Excel from the shortcut (outside of email), but it does do it sometimes when opened directly from the shorcut.<br />
<br />
I have reinstalled Office and I have done a &quot;repair&quot; from the install menu, and neither one has changed this behavior.<br />

Does anyone know why this is happening?<br />
