Active Directory Broken
I have a windows server 2008 domain controller. This is also running sharepoint 2010 in a development environment. Some one seems to have broken the active directory that is installed on this server.
When I try and open Users and Computers MMC I get this error:
"The directory schema is not accesible because:
An invalid directory pathname was passed
For this reason the Neww menu may be inaccurate and extension snap-ins may not work properly".
When I click the ok button I get this next message:
"Data from Active Directory Users and Computers
{domain.name.com} is not available from Domain Controller domain.name.com because:
The server is not operational.
Try again later or choose another DC by selecting Connect to Domain Controller on teh Domain context menu".
If anyone has come across this and know a fix it would be great.
Thanks

Is this Server 2008 or SBS 2008? Was this a migration from one server to another? Sounds like the FSMO roles did not get transferred.
Rin dcdiag post results
Type net share & see you can see sysvol & netlogon as shared or not?
Does rebooting solve the issue?

Thanks everyone, as this was causing me problems for sometime, I just rebuilt the server from scratch, not the best solution when it comes to trouble shooting but it was quicker.
Appreciate all your responses though.

I actually rebuilt the server with a previous .vhd file, but your points helped me understand active directory a little better, thanks.
