Keep getting the error message "An attempt to resolve the DNS name of a DC in the domain being joined has failed" when trying to add Vista computer to Server 2003 domain (see the screenshot).

The root cause of this issue was that the DHCP server was configured incorrectly.

It was handing out incorrect DNS server addresses.

The primary DNS server address was actually a DNS server on the internet while the secondary DNS server address was the company's internal DNS server.

Once these settings were changes, the local area network was once again able to communicate, and the issue was resolved.
