Can't send invoices from Peachtree Accounting via Outlook Express in XP

My default email program is Outlook Express, but when I try to email an invoice through Peachtree it opens Outlook so I can't send.  Peachtree claims they don't control the default program for email but they can't offer a reason as to why it is opening Outlook.  Does anyone have an answer?  I can save the PDF invoice to the desktop and then open OE and send, but I don't want a workaround.

Peachtree had advised to go into Task Manager and stop any process that begins with HPQ.  I did have some, but it doesn't solve the problem when I stop them.

Check your Internet Options in Control Panel: click on the Programs tab, and see what's listed for E-mail. If it's Outlook, switch it to Outlook Express.

Presumably it's also shown as the default mail handler in OE's Tools/Options, General tab (I think those reference the same system setting).

Do you need to have Outlook installed on your computer for anything? If not, you might try uninstalling it completely. If you have the installation disk available and still need Outlook for something else, you might uninstall it, see if Peachtree will work correctly, then reinstall it. You'd probably need to reset the default mail handler to OE after the reinstall of Outlook, and it's possible this issue will reappear despite that, but it at least wouldn't make you any worse off than you are now.
