Single Domain Controller Crashsed Windows Server 2003 Exchange 2010

Quick Overview

Single Domain Controller running Windows Server 2003 R2

Member Server 2008 r2 with Exchange 2010

Both drives in the raid array of the domain controller failed this weekend and Windows will not boot. One drive is power dead and the other has a clicking arm.  Backups of this server were made by the previous admin but never tested. The only backup media that I have even been able to mount is cd-rw holding a copy of the system state from two days ago.

My question is can I still save Active Directory from this system state and how would I do this?

I have never encountered this where I had system state without drive images.

In theory -- yes, it is possible.  You'll need to install a fresh DC and perform a restore:

Razmus,

That was just the article I was looking for. Couldn't quite get my search query worded right to find it. I was able to restore and everything seems to be working, only time will tell which fires I may have but the everything is up and running mail is flowing users and logging on.

Thank you!.
