I have a server that crashed.  I want to get the data from the external hard drive that I used for the MS backup.  Is there any way I can connect the external drive to another Windows server 2008 and recover the data?????

Connect your drive to other Windows 2008 server and then in Disk Management import it. You would be able to access data.
