To move an icon to a new layer in Illustrator:<br />

Open the Window &gt;&nbsp;Layers panel.<br />

There is a little icon in the bottom right corner. Hold down the Alt key while you click this icon. This action will give you a dialog box to name your new layer.<br />

Select the first icon. You will see a colored dot in the Layers panel. Take that dot and move it to the new Layer.<br />

How do I export icons from an Adobe Illustrator file?

Illustration software is distinguished from photo-editing software in that the result is an original construction, rather than the manipulation of a photograph.
